President Samia Launches Vision 2050, TTB Chief Highlights Tourism as a Driver of National Transformation

President Samia Suluhu Hassan has officially launched Dira ya Taifa ya Maendeleo 2050 (National Development Vision 2050) during a historic event in Dodoma, attended by senior government officials, private sector leaders, diplomats, civil society, and development partners.
The Vision 2050 provides an ambitious roadmap for Tanzania’s inclusive and sustainable development over the next 25 years. It aims to transform the nation into a resilient, high-income economy driven by innovation, equality, and environmental stewardship.
Among the distinguished participants was Mr. Ephraim Mafuru, Director General of the Tanzania Tourist Board (TTB), who emphasized the central role of tourism in the realization of the vision’s objectives.
“Tourism is not just about travel, it is a catalyst for development, employment, cultural exchange, and international visibility,” said Mr. Mafuru.
“Vision 2050 gives us a renewed mandate to position Tanzania as a globally competitive and sustainable destination. Our brand promise remains strong, Tanzania: Unforgettable.”
Tourism as a Pillar in Vision 2050
Vision 2050 recognizes tourism as a strategic growth sector vital for Tanzania’s socio-economic transformation. The vision prioritizes:
Wildlife and Eco-Tourism
Cultural and Heritage Tourism
Beach and Urban Experiences
Gastronomy, Health, and Conference Tourism
TTB’s approach aligns with this vision through product diversification, sustainable tourism practices, community empowerment, and targeted international marketing in both emerging and traditional source markets.
Global Recognition and Awards
Mr. Mafuru also highlighted Tanzania’s growing global stature, citing recent honors from the World Travel Awards:

The event featured keynote speeches, exhibitions, and sectoral presentations. Delegates from various ministries, international agencies, the diplomatic community, and national institutions pledged a shared commitment to realizing the Vision 2050 goals.
In her address, President Samia stated:
“This is not just a government plan, it is a national covenant for transformation. Everyone has a role to play.”
As Tanzania transitions from Vision 2025 to 2050, the Tanzania Tourist Board reaffirms its commitment to promoting tourism as a driver of prosperity, sustainability, and national pride.
