Tanzania Shines at World Travel Awards with 41 Nominations

DAR ES SALAAM, April 11, 2026 - Tanzania has continued to strengthen its position on the global stage after securing 41 nominations in the prestigious World Travel Awards, reaffirming its status as one of Africa’s leading tourism destinations.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam, the Head of Communications at the Tanzania Tourist Board, Paulina Mkama, stated that the awards feature a total of 85 nominees from both public and private sectors. The awards aim to recognize and celebrate excellence in service delivery, promote healthy competition, and provide a platform for stakeholders and tourists to vote for the world’s best destinations and experiences.

She noted that Tanzania’s participation in the awards presents a valuable opportunity to promote the country internationally and position it as a premier tourism destination on the global map.

Mkama further highlighted that government institutions, including Tanzania Forest Services Agency and Tanzania Wildlife Management Authority, have successfully submitted several attractions into the competition.

Tanzania is competing across multiple categories within Africa, with iconic attractions such as the Serengeti National Park nominated for top honors. In some categories, seven out of 14 nominees are from Tanzania, underscoring the country’s strong presence and competitiveness in the tourism sector.

Mkama emphasized that the tourism sector contributes over one million jobs annually, and success in these awards will further enhance investment opportunities, employment creation, and national revenue growth.

Currently, the campaign “One Vote, One Ticket for Tanzania” is underway, encouraging Tanzanians and tourism stakeholders to actively participate by voting in order to increase the country’s chances of winning.

“Beyond strengthening service excellence, these awards also stimulate growth in the tourism sector through innovation, investment, and by enhancing the attractiveness of destinations in the global market,” she said.

She added that, for the first time, several attractions managed by government institutions such as TAWA and TFS have been nominated. These include:

  • Mpanga Kipengere Game Reserve
  • Amani Nature Forest Reserve
  • Selous Game Reserve
  • Pugu Kazimzumbwi Forest Reserve
  • Kilwa Kisiwani

This milestone reflects the continued growth and diversification of Tanzania’s tourism sector.
